RE: ordinance against rv's

Our covenants state that no trailers or boats of any kind are allowed to be stored anywhere on the property ... period. Apparently it is okay to have a TT in the driveway to load up for a trip, but it cannot remain on the property after dark. This past summer I had the TT in my driveway for the day and had a nosy neighbor come knock on my door and tell me that "a lot of people are upset that you have your camper sitting in the driveway ... get it out of there RIGHT NOW". Needless to say, I had a few words for her, but around my neck of the woods it is becoming more common to have these types of restrictions.

RE: kitchen slide, is it a problem?

They aren't "problem free", Jayco has a recall on some 26L models for gas lines and Keystone and others have had them in the past. Like anything, keeping up a inspection routine of all lines is the best prevention. The Keystone recall was for the gas line to the outside cook center on the curb side. The kitchen slideout is on the other side.

RE: kitchen slide, is it a problem?

My comment is the same as the others. Our entire kitchen is on the slideout and we haven't had a single problem all year with it. It has been in and out dozens of times without incident. However, I do check the plumbing connections under the sink very often to make sure they are still tight. If you like the rest of the TT, then go for it!

RE: 08 Keystone Passport 280BH opinions

We ended up buying the Passport 280BH (actually the Camping World Freedom Lite 279TB). Congrats on the TT and the wisdom to get a properly sized TV! We have camped in our 2008 Freedom Lite 281RL (same as the Passport 285RL) over 90 nights so far this season without any major incidents (including a 5000+ mile trip out West and back). Enjoy!

RE: Reese Weight Distribution hitch vs. Equalizer

The Reese HP Dual Cam can be added to any Reese WD hitch and is an excellent system. Cost should be comparable. I added the Dual Cam to my Reese hitch for $147. I love the thing, makes towing fun again.\ I second this! I completed a 5000+ mile cross country trip this past summer and the Reese HP Dual Cam worked exactly as intended. I've never owned the Equalizer brand,so I have nothing else to compare the Reese system against.

RE: cheap generators

A/C's take alot of juice to start. The 2400 may not have enough balls to start one that big. My Yamaha 2400 runs the AC just fine (but I'm not at a high elevation). Of course, I can't be running a whole lot else while the AC is running. I usually start off turning the fan on first, and then the AC a minute or so later.

RE: winterize

I have used the compressed air method for over 25 years without a problem. There are many forums that discuss the proper procedure for doing this. After I'm done, I pour some antifreeze down the traps in the kitchen and bathroom sinks, and little bit in the toilet bowl to keep the seal covered during the winter.

RE: Portable holding tanks

You can't go wrong with the Barker tanks. I have had a 22-gallon Barker for several years now, and didn't have a single problem. It comes with a hitch ball attachment, which makes it very easy to get the tank to the dump station. I just bought the 42-gallon Barker tank for my seasonal site, and it appears to be of the same quality as the 22-gallon (plus, it has the drain valve on the side so you don't have to tip the tank to empty it). The 42-gallon tanks still aren't shown on the Barker web site, but they are available out there.

RE: fastening to walls

I, too, was troubled at the prospect of drilling anything into my brand new TT walls. However, I found a self-tapping anchor at Lowes that is specifically for thin panels (such as TT paneling walls). I bought a pack and have since hung a towel bar, towel ring, clock, key ring, and secured 5 new electrical outlets to the wall (both the hollow interior and foam-filled exterior walls). I've got to tell you ... the things I hung are not going anwhere! The sales receipt says: 203091 Panel Driller #8 They were $4.48 for a pack of 8.

RE: totes

anybody have one larger than a 35 gallon and where did you find it. i did a search and the largest i could find was a 35 gal.Barker is now listing a 42 gallon 4 wheeler. Try Tweety's. I ordered a 42-gallon Barker tank today from here: Barker 42-gallon tank. Here are my order details: PRODUCT INFORMATION: Product ID: 88-1480 Description: Barker 42 Gallon 4 Wheel Tote Tank Order Quantity: 1 Unit Price: $219.99 Total Cost: $219.99 ORDER TOTALS: Item Total: $219.99 Tax: $0.00 Shipping: $14.25 Order Total: $234.24 Tweety's also had them in stock as of today (Tweety's). Their price was $220.02, but the shipping would have been $65.00 to my house. By the way, these 42-gallon Barker tanks are a bit hard to find in stock.

RE: Frustration with KZ Service Dept.

I don't really know for sure, but I just think KZ should be concerned about this. It's a 2004 and it just seems like they need to do some looking into this! But, wouldn't you need to take it back to the KZ dealer for them to look at it (as they suggested)? I realize it's a long drive, but what else can they say?

RE: Spare Tire

Our's came that way from the factory. Our TT came this way too. It is true that the ground clearance could be an issue. My TT is an ultra-lite (which is already low to the ground) ... with the spare mounted under the front of the A-frame, there is not a lot of room before I would bottom out.

RE: Installing a shower curtain!!

My concerns are; using screws that are long they will they hold I don't know if there is a stud in the wall where I need it I have not put screws in the walls of this TT Just nervous about them not holding and messing up the wall. Just go for it! As others have suggested, if the rod is non-adujustable make sure you cut an equal amount off of each end. Measure twice and cut once! The plastic anchors will hold the rod just fine. It's one of the best mods. I've done in our TT.

RE: hot water heater thermal cutoff

Can't help you with your specific question, but had the same thing happen with our Atwood water heater. I now carry a spare thermal cutoff with me.

RE: disconnect dual cam when backing?

Same here ... I've never removed the spring bars while backing (and I, too, avoid sharp back-ins).

RE: 08 Keystone Passport 280BH opinions

Don't do it... We've had our Keystone FreedomLite 285RL (same as Passport 281RL) since last November and love it! We just completed a 5,000 mile trip out West and apart from a blown tire the TT towed perfectly and we had absolutely no other issues. As the OP stated, it's about average in quality, but what isn't in that price range? We tow with the vehicle in my signature (5.3 engine with 3.73 rear end), and have absolutely no trouble ... sometimes have to drop down into 2nd gear on bigger grades, but it's for a very short period of time.

RE: DURO Tires

DocP, Having never experienced a (trailer) flat tire while driving, when did you notice you had a problem? Before I actually noticed the tire had failed a driver pulled up frantically alongside me and indicated that "your rear tire is gone".

RE: How much water carried when traveling

On longer trips we shoot for 1/3 to 1/2 full. This worked out very well on a recent trip for the 2 of us.

RE: picked up a Yamaha EF2400iS generator locally for $600

I used my Yamaha EF 2400iS a lot on our recent cross-country trip. Always started on the first pull and ran the AC fine. It was great being able to pull over into a rest stop, crank up the genny, and take a break!

RE: Extended tire spacing chocks

It's to add stability...I'll tell you we get a much nicer ride out of our Passport than we did our Antiqua. Not sure it's the tire spacing, but not sure it isn't. Same here with our Keystone FreedomLite 281RL (the same as the Passport 285RL). We just completed a 5,000 mile trip throughout the west and southwest, and the stability of the spread axles was great (although I'm sure a good hitch and sway control helped as well)! When we first got the TT I had the same question wheel chocks and spread axle designs. My search found nothing commercially available, and BAL indicated that there are no plans in the works to make them because there isn't enough of a market for them.
